Following on from their recent acquisition of Paragon Laundry, Steve Clarke has been appointed as Chief Commercial Officer for CLEAN. Steve also continues to serve as Managing Director at The Brilliant Laundry Group, a position he has held since 2011.
Prior to his time at Brilliant, Steve was a 20 year veteran of British Telecom plc where he focused almost entirely on the needs of international corporate customers. Steve led BT business units in the airlines, high tech and conglomerate sectors where he worked extensively in North America.
Steve’s business philosophy is based on ‘customer first’ principles, beating the competition and being market led. Steve studied Engineering at Aston University, holds a Diploma in Management from Henley Management College and a Masters’ degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Nottingham University.
CLEAN is delighted to announce the acquisition of the entire share capital of Stevens Hatherley Holdings Limited trading as Paragon Laundry. Paragon is one of the UK’s largest independent linen and garment rental providers and a shareholder of the Brilliant Laundry Group. Paragon service many of the UK’s leading hospitality and workwear clients across a large geographical region of the UK.
Jason Miller, CEO, CLEAN said: “This is a very exciting and strategic acquisition for CLEAN. I have known Paragon and worked closely with the business over many years and the integration of the Paragon business into CLEAN is a logical development. Combining Paragon with CLEAN will extend our market share in linen rental and doubles our workwear turnover. The geographical synergies are excellent and this acquisition will significantly extend our UK coverage. It will also broaden our service offering and see us enter new markets with Special Occasion Linen. The transaction further extends our ownership of the Brilliant Laundry Group to become the single largest shareholder”.

The sale to CLEAN is a natural progression in the growth of Paragon and combining the two companies creates an extremely strong and powerful player in the marketplace. This is great news for all our staff who have worked so hard over the last 98 years to make Paragon what it is today. I believe this is an excellent development for both CLEAN and Paragon”.

Emma Wolfendale has been successfully assisting some customers with the switchover and we are pleased to announce that 53% of our current customers are now operating on Brilliantstreamline.
This is great news and we are well on our way to achieving our July 2013 target.

It may come as a surprise to you that linen theft and stock abuse together cost the textile industry an estimated £20 million per year.
In an effort to educate hotel managers and housekeepers the TSA have launched their ‘Linen Lockdown’ Campaign. Over 5,000 posters have been distributed to hotels and hospitality companies highlighting the importance of looking after linen and the detrimental effect this can have on the industry.
As well as running a Linen Crime Forum in Edinburgh, which was attended by Executive Housekeepers, representatives from the Institute of Hospitality and Lothian Borders Police, the TSA have also set up an Integrity Line for people to pass on information about suspicious behaviour or wrongdoing completely anonymously, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Suspected linen crime can be reported to the LinenLine on 0800 012 1000.
We are delighted to announce that Brilliant have been awarded a three year laundry services contract with hotel group Principal Hayley Hotels. The contract is worth in the region of £9m and renews all 22 UK properties in the PH Hotels collection of landmark city centre hotels and dedicated conference and training venues.
Our Brilliant MD Steve Clarke commented: “We are delighted to be continuing and building on our longstanding relationship with such a prestigious company in the hospitality market. We’ve worked with PH Hotels for many years, and this enduring partnership in such a highly competitive marketplace is a testament to our capability to manage national laundry service contracts efficiently. The many initiatives we’ve put in place show that we strive constantly to ‘raise the bar’ of performance and customer experience, including areas such as enhanced reporting and management information”.
The success of the relationship between Brilliant and PH Hotels has spawned the planning of other joint marketing initiatives between the two organisations, including the provision of Brilliant’s exclusive table linen hire service (Special Occasion Linen®) and its Isabella® towelling products.
Steve Clarke continued: “Helping PH Hotels offer an ever better guest experience is central to our working relationship and strategy. We provide a VIP service at the front-end of their business, one that is immediately tangible for every guest, so we’re committed to a constant and systematic review of our service and operations. Such a process of re-validation ensures our products are perfectly matched to each of their very individual hotels.”
Peter Montague, PH Hotels Regional Operations Director, added: “We’re constantly looking to further develop the personal expression of service and attention to detail that our guests appreciate. So as you might expect we’re very particular when it comes to the services we offer in our properties and have partnered with Brilliant as their drive for excellence mirrors our own.”
The contract awarded Brilliant followed a competitive tender with other commercial laundry operations.
The Hilton Worldwide Celebrity Charity Golf Day was recently held at Puckrup Hall in Gloucestershire and Brilliant were pleased to enter a team into this years event. The team consisted of David Horsfield (MD at Abbey Glen), Steve Connell (Sales Director at Brilliantparagon), Steve Clarke (MD at Brilliant) and Dan Barrett (BDM at Brilliant). (We’re told the PGA has nothing to worry about with these guys).
After completing 18 holes of golf, and finishing in the top 10, there was a Gala evening dinner and Cabaret show performed by some of the celebrities in attendance. Unfortunately there doesn’t appear to be any photos from the evening, or so we’re told, but we’ve uploaded a ‘before’ shot of the team to our Twitter page here. A great effort guys.
Our Managing Director, Steve Clarke, recently joined other Brilliant executives on a visit to Nile Linen in Egypt. After years of careful scrutiny and discussion, Nile Linen is Brilliant’s primary supplier of linen. We enjoy a very close working relationship and very high levels of service from them.
It was Steve’s first visit to the mill and it gave an enormous boost to his already high opinion of Brilliant’s capabilities. Nile Linen’s operation is vast; it covers around 10 different manufacturing areas and employs some 1,000 people.
Visiting the site, meeting the people, touring the enormous manufacturing areas, the testing and laboratory facilities gave Steve a real insight into the fantastic relationship that we enjoy with Nile Linen.
The strong link is important to our clients because it massively strengthens our robust supply chain; we are able to manage the supply of high spec quality products without a reliance on third parties. That’s good news for everyone.

Anna Callow, our fabulous Office Manager and PA to Managing Director, has now been with the company for 6 years. Definitely a Brilliant achievement in our eyes!
Our Business Developement Manager, Dan Barrett, has also been with us for 5 years. Dan will probably argue that it feels like 50 but we know he loves it here really!
Finally, we also celebrate the first year at Brilliant for our Managing Director Steve Clarke. I’m sure Steve will agree that he’s been non-stop since day one! Hopefully the next twelve months won’t be quite so punishing!
